I’m On My Way

Ride & Stride – Tuesday 6 September – HOME to INVERNESS

I have just realised that after several NC500 Blogs I have yet to mention the word ‘Whisky’! At the start and end of our Ride & Stride journey we pass several distilleries, including Glenmorangie on the east coast near Tain on our penultimate day, and hopefully we will get a chance to sample a dram or two. This shot was taken at Luton airport – a little bit early in the day to be of serious interest!

After so many months of planning Ride & Stride begins for real today, and the team has now assembled in Inverness ahead of our adventure around the NC500. Our thoughts are with Julian back at home, recovering well by all accounts from his recent operation, and still very much involved with our social media posts and the like.

Meeting up with Emma and Lesley at a rather damp Inverness Airport
Our welcome to the Aye Stay guesthouse in Inverness – and the rain duly arrived this evening, giving us our first soaking on our NC500 journey
Our first team picture on tour – Back Row: Peter, James, Nick, Jeff and Phil, Front Row: Moira, Tina, Emma and Lesley
Also introducing our hired 9-seater ‘minibus’, now known to us all as Nessie: she is to be driven by Tina and Moira, whilst Phil and I will share the driving duties in his camper-van
Inverness tonight, reflecting solidarity with Ukraine

My heading today, ‘I’m On My Way’, is a rousing song from The Proclaimers that should enliven us a little as we set out on the NC500. The Reid twins, Craig and Charlie, are better known perhaps for their signature song ‘(I’m Gonna Be) 500 Miles’, that might itself have been a good anthem for Ride & Stride – but unfortunately I have already used this number as a Blog title on my LETJOG walk last year. Anyway I love their energy, and ‘I’m On My Way’ seems an apt title as we set off on our NC500 adventure!

  1. We’re ‘Route-ing ‘ for you Nick and the team. Surely you’ve got a wee dram hidden away in one of your pockets?!
