City To City

I hadn’t expected to be packing these lightweight crampons, but this week’s snow on the higher ground in Cumbria and Yorkshire has caused us to reassess our C2C kit-list to include more winter gear and warmer layers!

So the start of our Coast to Coast (C2C) Walk is nigh, and this afternoon I took the train to Liverpool. A crowded Friday afternoon inter-city journey and inevitable delays notwithstanding, I met up eventually with my brother Tim at Lime Street for the short connection under the Mersey to meet Rob at Bebington station. And so our adventure began, with a drink, and a laugh, or two over dinner with Rob and Christa – thank you both for your fine hospitality!

Reflecting on why we are doing this walk, our aim is to support Parkinson’s UK in raising awareness of the condition, and to raise funds for their medical research projects into treatments and towards a cure. I’d like to thank Rob for inviting me along on this adventure, and for his energy in bringing together all the arrangements. Also to Stephanie, Anita and their colleagues at Parkinson’s UK for their care and support. Thank you.

And finally, it just so happens that the period of our C2C Walk includes Monday 11 April, which is World Parkinson’s Day! Further details on this, and on all the work that Parkinson’s UK undertake, can be found on their website by clicking on the following link:

A permanent fixture on my backpack, much-travelled Panda, pictured at Milton Keynes station this afternoon, is all set for her latest adventure!
